And there is the Garden Route, from Mossel Bay through George and Knysna to Plettenberg Bay, which is four to five hours from Cape Town and effectively its own scene.
If you are in the Cape Town metro, you have the second-largest concentration of members in the country within easy reach: the Atlantic Seaboard, the Southern Suburbs, the Northern Suburbs around Bellville and Durbanville, and the West Coast strip through Table View and Milnerton. What the scene is actually like in Western Cape
Cape Town's lifestyle scene has a reputation for being social-first. Meeting for a drink or dinner before anything else is closer to the default here than it is elsewhere, and members tend to say so plainly on their profiles. The winelands make that easy — a Saturday in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek is an unremarkable way to meet another couple for the first time.
The province is also genuinely seasonal in a way no other province is. Between December and February the Cape fills with visitors from Gauteng and abroad, and activity rises with it. Members along the Garden Route in particular notice the difference between a quiet July and a busy January.
Cape Town members commonly suggest somewhere in the City Bowl, Sea Point or the Southern Suburbs for a first meeting, and the winelands for a longer afternoon. Is there an active lifestyle scene outside Cape Town?
Yes, but it thins with distance. Stellenbosch, Paarl, Somerset West and the northern suburbs are effectively part of the Cape Town pool. George, Knysna, Mossel Bay and Plettenberg Bay have members, but fewer, and meeting usually takes more planning.
How far is the Garden Route from Cape Town?
George is roughly 430 km — about four and a half hours. That is far enough that Garden Route members generally treat their own towns as their local scene rather than commuting to the city.
Does the Cape scene really change in summer?
Noticeably. December and January bring visitors from Gauteng and overseas, and both browsing and event activity rise. Winter is quieter and more local.
