What the scene is actually like in Mpumalanga
The Highveld towns have a scene shaped by the mining and industrial economy around them — a working population, a lot of people who moved there for work, and members who are used to driving. The Gauteng border being close changes the maths: for many, the realistic pool is the whole Pretoria–eMalahleni corridor rather than one town.
Mbombela and the Lowveld work differently. This is the gateway to the Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route, so the area carries steady tourism, and members there are more used to meeting people who are visiting rather than resident. White River, Hazyview and Sabie all sit inside easy reach of Mbombela.
Highveld members frequently meet in Middelburg or eMalahleni as a midpoint, or drive into Pretoria. In the Lowveld, Mbombela's Riverside area is the usual suggestion, with White River close enough to be an easy alternative.
