Why we do not publish a venue list
Because it would be wrong within months. Clubs in this country open, close, move and rebrand constantly, and most of the "top swingers clubs in South Africa" pages you will find were accurate once, years ago. Sending someone to a venue that shut in 2023 is worse than sending them nowhere.
What does not go out of date is knowing what the options are and how to check what is on. That is what this page is for.
The three kinds of night
1. A club night at a licensed venue
A commercial premises, an entry fee, a bar, a dance floor and separate play areas. Usually a dress code, almost always a couples-and-selected-singles door policy, and a fixed set of house rules enforced by staff. The most structured option and the easiest first outing, because the rules are somebody else's job to enforce rather than yours.
2. A private house party
Hosted by a couple or a small group in a private home. Smaller, warmer, and vetted — you are invited rather than admitted, usually after the hosts have chatted to you first. The etiquette is tighter precisely because it is somebody's house.
3. An organised meet
A drink or a dinner in an ordinary public venue with no play at all. This is where most South African couples actually start: you meet people, you work out who you like, and nothing else is on the table that evening. If the phrase "swingers club" makes you anxious, start here instead.
What actually happens at your first one
Far less than people fear. You arrive, you pay, you get shown around, and then you stand at a bar with a drink talking to strangers — which is the whole of the first hour for nearly everybody. Nothing happens to you that you have not agreed to; watching all evening and going home is a completely normal outcome and nobody will comment on it.
The rule every venue in the country runs on is the same: ask, and take no for an answer the first time. Touching without asking is the one thing that gets people removed. Your first swingers club walks through the whole evening properly, and what a swingers party is actually like covers the house-party version.
How to find what is on near you
Members run their own events on Swingles — club nights, house parties and meets — with dates, locations and ticketing, and meets for the informal drinks version. Both are listed by province, so you see what is actually happening where you are rather than what happens in Johannesburg.
Browsing by province is the other way in: Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West and Northern Cape. Local members are the people who know which venues are currently any good.
What to sort out before you go
- Agree your limits with your partner first, out loud, before you leave the house. "We will see how it goes" is not an agreement.
- Agree a way to leave. A word, a look, anything — and honour it instantly, no discussion at the venue.
- Check the dress code and the door policy before you drive an hour.
- Take cash. Plenty of venues still prefer it at the door.
- Drink less than you think. Consent and alcohol do not mix, and every house rulebook in the country says so.
