Bull, Stag, Vixen, Cuckold: What the Words Actually Mean
These four words describe near-identical scenes and completely different emotional dynamics. Confusing them is the fastest way to a bad night.
Get these wrong and you will offend somebody within a paragraph. They are used interchangeably by people outside the lifestyle and very precisely by people inside it.

Stag and vixen: the pride version
A stag is a man who enjoys seeing his partner desired and enjoyed by someone else. The feeling driving it is pride — look at her, look what she can do to a room. His partner is the vixen, and the arrangement is built around her enjoyment.
The stag is not excluded and not diminished. He is usually present, often involved, and the emotional centre of the evening is we are doing this together and I love watching you.
Stag/vixen overlaps almost entirely with the hotwife dynamic. Where people distinguish them, stag/vixen tends to emphasise the couple as a unit, while hotwife tends to emphasise the wife’s autonomy.
Cuckold: the humiliation version
A cuckold is aroused by the opposite emotional current. The charge comes from humiliation — being excluded, made to watch, made to feel less than the other man. Common elements include being told to wait elsewhere, being unfavourably compared, or being denied.
